When can you have baby number 2 and not need a double buggy?

Baby number 1 is 11 months old. I’m thinking about when is the ideal time for the next one, but I really can’t face trailing a double buggy around. I’m wondering when you can reasonably expect a toddler to go out without one. I’m also thinking of those buggy board things, and also I think you have about six months where toddler can go in buggy and baby can go in sling…. Any experience/ideas welcome. ( I have a Bugaboo Gecko currently)
My son was only two when we had number two but he did walk a fair bit but we had a double buggy that we used for longer trips when we knew he wouldn’t manage the walk. As you say you can carry baby around in the sling for six months or more depending on weight etc. I would get a good buggy board if you can, they make ones that they can turn around and sit down on when they’re legs get tired. I would recommend that you start as soon as your child is walking getting out for little short walks just around your road and gradually build him/her up to longer walks. I say this because if you wait until they are two or three you may find you have a job convincing them to walk at all! My son used to walk for a good couple of hours by the time he was two and a half. whereas you just have to look around your local area and you will see plenty of 3 and 4 year olds still sitting in their pushchairs! This is because they get harder to encourage to walk the later you leave it. My friend had her first child in a pushchair until she was nearly starting school because she left it too long to start the little walks and by the time she was getting too heavy to push anymore she just refused to walk and it was a huge battle everytime. I think you should aim for a two and a half year gap if poss, and if it is a little under that you may have to have a double for a very short time and you may get away with using it only on longer trips, the rest of the time using the buggy board. You can always sell the double after if you don’t use it much. Hope this was helpful, Good Luck
